The Big Walk For The Children's Hospice South West

Children's Hospice South West

On Sunday May 7th 2023, about 120 Girls, Boys, Parents and Coaches of Fry Club JFC set off from Somerdale Pavilion on a 10 mile round trip to the local beauty spot of Kelston Round Hill. For those unable to make it there was the Mile-a-Day-in-May, but for these hardy souls, it was a roughly four hour round trip along the River Avon, then Bristol to Bath Cycle Track, up past the Fine Cheese shop before finally the last push up the hill.  Half of all monies raised were going to the Children's Hospice South West with the other half to the Club, and it was a fantastic effort all round with the total aim of both events set at £2500. Images of the event are available to view.

A Mile-A-Day-In-May For The Children's Hospice South West

Children's Hospice South West

On Monday May 1st 2023, Girls and Boys of Fry Club JFC started to undertake a daily mile as part of an effort to complete a mile every day for the whole of May.  This event was linked to the Big Walk which took place on Sunday May 7th, and the daily mile was for those unable to make the Big Walk.  Many players took part and captured Images of themselves walking, running, cycling, swimming, canoeing, bouncing as well as other sports and other forms of movement.  They also submitted Routes which they had taken, all in an effort to raise as much money as possible, half for the Children's Hospice South West and the other half for the Club.

Charity Match For The Children's Hospice South West

Children's Hospice South West

On Friday April 21st 2023, Fry Club JFC Coaches took part in a Charity Match against the Coaches of Red Falcon FC.  All monies raised were for Charity with the Fry Club JFC Coaches supporting the Children's Hospice South West and the Red Falcon Coaches supporting Go Again, a charity who offer professional mental health support and content to people within sport and after sport.  The match itself was keenly contested and ended with a 4-1 victory to Red Falcon after Fry Club JFC had spurned some first half opportunities. Children's Hospice South West

On Saturday May 7th 2022, Fry Club JFC Girl's section undertook a fantastic fundraising effort as they ran and walked at Somerdale, as a group covering the distance between Keynsham and Paris; a total of 650 kilometres.  Our Girl's section has about 100 girls, so each girl averaged 6.5 kilometres each. Half of the money raised went to the Children's Hospice South West and the other half to the Girl's section of Fry Club JFC and some of the Hospice representatives were there to join in. Images of the event are available to view.

Children's Hospice South West

On June 5th 2021, Fry Club JFC U7 and U8 Girls Teams had a magnificent attempt at fundraising as they looked to raise £1,000.00, with half of the money donated to the Children's Hospice South West and the other half going towards the purchase of kit and tracksuits for the girls to play in.  To do so, the girls dribbled around the perimeter of the Somerdale fields, a distance of 2.5 kilometres. If you are interested in girl's football then please get in touch and for more on the Wildcats, please click the link.

Tesco Bag Packing For The Children's Hospice South West

Children's Hospice South West

On March 2nd 2019, our U11 Boys undertook a morning of bag packing at Tesco in Keynsham to raise funds.  As with the U15's before them, for their U11 year, they decided that, rather than get a sponsor for their kit, that they would sponsor a charity. They decided to have the Children's Hospice South West logo printed on their shirts, and to collect for the charity at each of their Home matches. At this event they raised £422.60 in just two hours and were grateful to Tesco in Keynsham for giving them the opportunity. Images of the event are available to view.

Fundraising For The Children's Hospice South West

Children's Hospice South West

In 2011, our U15 Boys were inspired by Barcelona in their fundraising ideas. Rather than be paid for kit sponsorship, Barcelona paid Unicef £1 million per year to display their logo, as reported in this Guardian_Article, and they decided to follow a similar route. Joining in with the Children’s Hospice South West based at Charlton Farm, Wraxall in the South West of Bristol, they proudly displayed the CHSW logo for their final two seasons, and collected money via collection tins at each game. They kicked off the fundraising drive at their game away to Yate Utd on Sunday 13th November 2011, and were grateful to Yate for the opportunity, as well as the £20 donation from the Yate team. They were also very grateful to their main sponsor Dribuild Interior Solutions for donating the money to have the away shirts printed, and who were fully supportive of the effort. More information can be found on the website of the Children's Hospice South West, and this story was also covered on the website of the Somerset FA and This is Bath.

In 2010 our former Webmaster Paul_Tompkins ran the Pensford 10k raising £1309 for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Steve Tucker and Jack Boulton who died within 2 days of each other in 2011.  Steve was a local Referee and Jack a young lad heavily involved in local sport who collapsed and died at football aged just 17.
