Fry’s U13 (3) v Imperial Saints U13 (4)

September 04th, 2005

Imperial Saints held on to take 3 points at Fry’s. The season started off for these two teams with hard fought game that gave credit to the boys on both teams. Fry’s started strong and kept the pressure on Imperial from the start. After numerous runs at the Imperial defence, Fry’s determination was rewarded when Ryan Ellett got on the end of a fantastic cross from Tom Hooper to fire the ball into the back of the Imperial goal.

The goal seemed to make Imperial step up a gear, and they started to pass the ball around well and pressured Fry’s with some piercing through balls. Danny Stone, the Fry’s anchorman in defence was called on many times to stop the surge from the Imperial attack. The Frys defence was finally broken though, with a strongly struck shot from the edge of the area which found its way under the diving  keeper into the bottom corner of the Fry’s net.

Fry’s were unlucky not to take the lead again on two occasions before half time, with a free kick from Justin Skinner rebounding off the post, and a goal being disallowed after a goal mouth scramble, the ball being judged to have been kicked from the Imperial keepers hands.

After the break, Imperial threw everything at Fry’s and scored another 3 goals, their speed of attack getting the better of the Fry’s defence.

The game looked over but Fry’s had the “never say over” attitude. Their determination paid off with another goal for Ryan Ellett and the ever-impressive Stone came up from defence to head in from a corner to bring the score to 4-3.

Time was on Imperial’s side and the final whistle blew. A well played, physical game which, if anything to go by, shows that these two teams will do very well this season.
