Cadbury Heath 16th September 2007

A glorious sunny early autumn mid day kick off at home with a tip top condition pitch was the setting for this fixture.

This week The Fry Club Girls played host to the team tipped for the Bristol Girls league under 14s title, in the form of Cadbury Heath Girls, who for this season are basically made up of most of the now defunct Bristol City Academy players.

This game was obviously going to be no picnic and having met and been beaten twice in pre-season friendlies by Cadbury Heath, the Fry Club Girls more than knew this.

The Fry Club Girls were straight out of the blocks and took the game to Cadbury Heath for the first five or ten minutes and even had a couple of half chances.

Cadbury Heath looked a little rattled but finally broke the deadlock after around 15 mins and took the lead 0-1.

The Fry Club Girls by this stage had been pushed back to play a little deep, but to their credit the defence held strong until around the 25min mark in the first half.

Cadbury Heath scored a further 3 goals in as many minutes and left the Fry Club Girls reeling from the blows after Fry’s had started so impressively. Danni was changed in the central midfield for Ashlea who to her credit got stuck in and the Fry Club Girls started to rally. Cadbury Heath scored again on the whistle for half time bringing the score to 0-5 in their favour, after a very brave save from Rikki Lee which rebounded straight to the Cadbury Heath centre forward.

Two changes were made at half time Danni returned to the central midfield along with Susie Jo, for Chelsie and Emily respectively.

The Fry Club Girls again started to rally and still didn't look like the beaten team the score line suggested, and indeed Natalie got away from her marker at every opportunity and looked odds on to pinch a couple of goals back.

Just as Frys got a foothold in the game Cadbury Heath scored again from a fluke cross that found the top right hand corner of the Frys goal.

So did Frys heads finally drop? the answer was an emphatic NO!

Emma, Charlotte, Alice and Steph fought hard to keep things as tight as they could in front of Rikki Lee who was playing, like the defenders, outstandingly well! Ashlea and Danni managed to again unlock the hard working Natalie still trying as hard as she could to pinch a consolation goal or two, she then hit the post with a wonderful solo run.

Cadbury Heath struck with two further goals in quick succession putting the score to 0-8 and it has to be said were playing some wonderful football.

The Fry Club girls however still played on with heads held high fighting for every ball. Cadbury Heath scored a further 2 goals and at the final whistle the score was 0-10 to Cadbury Heath.

It has to be said Charlotte, Alice and Rikki Lee in goal were inspirational for all to see, for their effort and commitment to what was a heavy loss and difficult game. Overall the score doesn't reflect the effort, hard work and commitment from the whole Fry Club Girls Team during the game.

Player of the match for this fixture was Rikki Lee for a fantastic and obviously difficult game in goal. Very well done!

Mentioned in dispatches for this game are Alice and her central defending partner Charlotte as previously mentioned you were great ! Emma for some great defending, Danni (for a gritty second half) Steph, for stepping into a defensive roll and pulling it off. Natalie, for trying to hunt down every long forward ball and working to win every ball around her, and lastly Ashlea you were chucked in at the deep end but didn’t drown! Very well done girls onwards and upwards!
