Fry Club Colts Under 15’s 2003/04

Holland June 2004

At the kind invitation of Mr Eddie Hulbert of Mulo C1 via one of our parents relatives and many meetings, fund raising events and lots of e-mails, it was decided that we, the under 15’s 2003/04, would go on tour to Eindhoven in Holland.

We would play local club side Mulo C1 and then academy side Helmond Sport C1.

The party would leave Bristol on Monday the 31st May travel to Dover and journey to Centre Parc’s at Kempervennen approximately 30 miles south of Eindhoven.

Then on Tuesday 2nd play their first of two matches against a local club side Mulo C1, who based in a town called Helmond which is about a fifty minute drive to the East of Eindhoven.

The kick off was arranged for 7pm. We arrived and were met by Eddie Hulbert, the Secretary of Mulo who had made all of the arrangements and went to great lengths to make us feel very welcome. The facilities were second to none.

We took a full squad and at a team meeting decided that every player will take an even part in the matches. This meant that at times players were playing in unfamiliar positions, our own brand of total football. With a dominant and strong performance from all we won our first game 5-0.

After the match we were congratulated and warned that the match that we were to play the following evening would be very much different. We were to play academy side Helmond Sport C1 who had this season played, among others Ajax, Feynoored and PSV Eindhoven. This would be a tough game.

We arrived on a warm evening at 5pm as this game was to kick off at 6pm. The mood in the changing room was determined. If we were to go down then we were going to go down with a good performance. To say the players were fired up is an under statement. We had been informed that the Helmond players were technically very good and if we gave them time and space they would murder us.

Well the Frys players went after the game right from the start and never gave a Helmond player either time or space. Frys eventually ran out 4-1 winners.

Helmond Sport C1 and Frys

We were rewarded with tickets to go and watch the men senior professional team Helmond Sport C1 verse VV Venlo in a play off match. Dressed in full Fry tracksuits we then crossed from the training ground to the stadium and duly took our seats. As the manager I was very proud of our lads many people paid high compliments to them, how smart they looked, how well they played and most of all how well they conducted themselves.

It was a great last night, sadly on the Friday we had to make the long journey home.

The players had done themselves, Frys and their parents Proud.

My thanks go to:

Ray Kot – Kit Sponsors Thorne Fabrications

All parents who have been pressed & badgered to raise funds

Eddie Hulbert and all at the Mulo Club who made us all very welcome

And last but not least, the players for setting such high standards on and off the field.
