Under 8s match report

Away to Thornbury Falcons 08/10/06

‘A’ Team

We lined up with Brandon in goal, Lewis and Harry in defence. In midfield we had Owen, Jacob and George with Dan Wetmore up front, subs Eli and Ryan.

Game kicked off with good early pressure from both teams on 5 min’s from a great clearance from Brandon sees George hit the post. A good run by Jacob forces a corner which Owen delivers and after a goal mouth scrabble Birdman fires just wide. After a neat one two between George and Owen in midfield which see George force a good save from the Thornbury keeper. At this point we are well on top but need a goal to show for all our pressure on 12 mins Birdman goes on a strong run and forces a corner for the team which results in Harry letting fly with a great strike just over the top. A good run down the line and a cross by Jacob sees George's shot beat the man on the line. 1-0 to us just before half time.

Second half

In a game battled out in midfield and both teams defending well, chances were hard to find. A crunching tackle in midfield by Owen sees the ball break to Jacob who’s shot forces the keeper to make a good save with his legs.At this stage Thornbury start to try and force the pace of the game but Brandon and his defence weren’t in the mood to let in a goal. A good smothering save by Brandon keeps the game at 1-0.We start to push Thornbury back and after a quick throw-in the ball falls at Birdman feet. His shot is well saved by the very busy Thornbury keeper. In the last couple of minutes of the game Thornbury force a corner which is well held by Brandon (keeper training starting to pay off) to release the pressure on us with one of his trademark long kicks we hold on to win 1-0.

Man of match: Dan (Birdman) Wetmore who showed a lot of strength holding ball up and taking players on.

‘B’ Team

We lined up with Ellis in goal, Josh and Dan in defence. In midfield we had Rhys, Dan and Oliver with Callum up front, subs Dan, Tyler and Charlie.

We started very strongly from the start which saw us creating plenty of early chances. Free kick on 6 mins sees Oliver thru on keeper but he claims well. Attack from Thornbury results in shot just wide, Dan(kaka) starts to control midfield. A good challenge on half way line by Rooney sees Callum shoot just wide. Thornbury just put a good effort over the bar we start to put pressure back on and force a corner which we just miss from. Callum clean thru but goalie saves well from his kick. Josh sees off the attack giving Fry’s a goal kick. Kaka goes on a good run skipping past 3 players but just misses the target. Tyler comes on for his first game in place of Callum and his first touch sees a shot just flash past post. Good pressure by us sees the ball break to Tyler who fires in a shot past the keeper to make it 1-0 on half time.

Second half

We start the second half in the same way we finished the first with pressure being put on Thornbury all over the pitch with all players working well for each other. 3 mins gone and Charlie forces the keeper into a save, in a good passing move involving four players and a final shot by Kaka which deflects for corner. Thornbury force us back and we have to give away a corner which we deal with. After more good defensive work we start to take control of the game again. In a well worked move Dan Bowden scores to make it 2-0. We carry on making chances down both flanks but can’t convert any of them and on their rare attacks Josh cleans up well and we win 2-0.

Man of match: Josh Seeley who was outstanding at the back with some great tackles and he used the ball well going forward.

NOTE: All the boys in both teams played well and myself and Asbo were proud of the way they played which was also shown by the parents who gave both teams a good round of applause at the end of the game. Manager of the month award goes to myself after the start we have had to the new season long may it continue.
