A local derby which both teams wanted to win, not
least of all because it would guarantee a higher finishing league position.
A very
even first half saw both teams create some good chances, but by far Frys had
the best of those with a very unlucky Mo Bouaziz just failing to hit the target
with 3 very good openings. Oli Boon also had one good
chance and another chance for Oli Randall soon
followed from a good corner by James Boulton. As
sometimes happens in games like these, a piece of bad luck befell Michael Payne
who was judged to have handballed inside our penalty box and Jack Boulton tucked the ball away for Saltford to put them 1-0
up just before the interval.
A positive half time talk kept up the pressure in the second half but time always seemed to be against us. Despite this, we still played some good football but in the end had to accept that it wasn’t going to be our day. A pleasing yet frustrating team performance which at least gave our players some reward for their efforts on the day.
For his
superb handling and shot stopping in goal, todays award for Man of the Match was made to Craig
Francis.
