AVON YOUTH LEAGUE U’15 DIV 3

SUN 22 APRIL 07

FRY CLUB COLTS        3

ST ALDHELMS ‘B’        0

3 games to go and a warm day on pitch 3 gave us the perfect conditions to play for another victory. With all 15 players available, we again had our strongest squad to select from.

St Aldhelms were a strong team but in the first 20 mins they rarely troubled Craig Francis in goal. Both Oli Murray and James Boulton were playing soundly, well supported by James Hurrell Smith and the busy Danny McCarthy who was involving himself across the pitch. On 20 mins, a free kick was awarded just inside our half which James Boulton took. His deep kick into the box was flicked off a defenders head which looped over the keeper and into the net to put us 1-0 ahead. This gave us good momentum to push forward and with some great wide play by Jordan Knight and Kyle Curtis, further opportunities were being created. Mo Bouaziz had a half chance, Brad Monelle went close on several occasions but it was following a great passage of play that gave Charlie Frampton a chance through on the keeper on 26 mins which he coolly slotted home to put us deservedly 2-0 up. The introduction of Craig Andrews almost paid off instantly but his controlled strike just flashed outside the post. Even the option of some great corners from Jordan Knight just failed to get a third goal so we went into half time 2-0 to the good.

The second half was a lot closer with St Aldhelms pushing for a way back into the game. However, our defence stood firm as they soaked up the pressure. Oli Randall was doing very well to keep the shape of the team together which was to prove important as St Aldhelms were unable to find many shots on target. At the other end Brad Monelle and Craig Andrews were both unlucky with further half chances that came their way, but the game was settled on 78 mins with Craig Andrews picking up the ball 25 yards out, controlling it and striking into the top left corner to earn us a deserved 3-0 victory and put us back on top of Div 3.

The whole squad of 15 players all had jobs to do which they did with great attitude and discipline. Ultimately we wanted a good victory and clean sheet which we got and this contributed to James Hurrell Smith winning today’s Man of the Match.
