FRY CLUB COLTS 2

HIGHRIDGE 4

Despite our disappointing performance and result last week, we were still top and we knew this was a game that we should win given Highridges’ position near the bottom of the table.

We made very good start to the game forcing many corners and Oli Randall header from one of these just missed the post. Brad Monelle took a great long range free kick which was curling in the far post only for the keeper to somehow push it wide. Further pressure soon paid off as a great cross from Danny McCarthy into the box found Mo Bouaziz who put us comfortably 1-0 up. As the half progressed we just couldn’t find a second goal our dominance deserved. We were now playing with great confidence. Both Dean Lapham on the right and Kyle Curtis on the left were providing good service into the forwards. However, with 10 minutes to go our concentration let slip and Highridge stole a goal back to level the scores into half time.

The turning point of the game was to arrive in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Highridge pushed players forward and from 2 crosses into the box which were cleared by our defence, the ball fell to a Highridge player who each time struck unstoppable shots to put them undeservedly 3-1 up. An immediate reply was needed and from good play down our right, a shot was saved but Kyle Curtis followed up to bring us back into the game 3-2. Unfortunately we were to concede a 4th goal almost straight after but with a good 30 minutes remaining we always felt we could match their goals. Wave after wave of attack followed with the whole team contributing. Great distribution from our keeper Craig Francis right through to our 2 forwards Brad Monelle and Craig Andrews though just couldn’t get us another goal. The best shot of the half came from Brad Monelle who from 30 yards hit the inside of the post only for the ball to bounce back into a Highridge player. In the end we just couldn’t force another goal but it was a great performance with spirit and determination. However with 2 defeats in 2 games we need to turn this excellent performance into 3 points.

With everyone playing very well, it was another difficult choice for Man of the Match but it was awarded this week to our keeper Craig Francis who showed great improvement with his dominance and distribution when needed during the game.
