CLUB COLTS 2
Our final local derby against a team who we
were more than capable of beating.
From the opening kick of the game we put pressure on
the Town defence and from a great cross by Jordan
Knight on the left, Scott Palma beat his defender with
a fine header only to see it rebound back of the post to safety. Further good
play led to a corner which Mo Bouaziz flighted in perfectly to Scott Gregory on the far post but
as he rose to head the ball a Town defender just impeded him which was not seen
by the ref and his head went wide. However, it was Keynsham
who scored first from an over hit corner which was retrieved and crossed back
in for a near post header which we could have defended better. 5 mins later we were 2 down following a lightweight penalty
decision against Danny McCarthy for a push. Sometimes they go for you,
sometimes they don’t! The game had now turned towards Keynshams
favour as we struggled to get control of the ball.
Our passing was astray as further chances came for our opponents, only the
cross bar preventing us going further behind. However a neat passage of play
from Mo out to Kyle Curtis who held onto well to the pass to set up Jordan
Knight only to see the ball hit a bobble as he struck it wide. At half time we
were very much second best.
An early response was needed in the second half, and
it came following a great pass from Jordan Knight as he saved the ball from
going out of play. His ball down the line to Charlie Frampton gave him space to
beat the full back and pass an accurate cross to Mo at the far post who side
footed home to bring us back within a goal. However, our joy was short lived as
Keynsham responded by converting a one on one with Craig
Francis to restore their 2 goal lead. Back we came and with a great volley pass
from Lewis Watt over the back of the Town defence, Mo
was once again in on goal. His shot cannoned back off the bar and was followed
up by Kyle Curtis who headed home to make the score 3-2 to Keynsham.
We were now well in the game and both Danny McCarthy and Oli
Randall were trying to gain control of the ball on a difficult spongy pitch.
James Hurrell Smith and his colleagues Scott Gregory
and Ben Keen were supporting the team as we pushed forward for a third. But we
would be caught out by a glorious strike from distance from Keynsham
to seal their victory at 4-2. In the final moment of the game, a left foot cross
from Kyle Curtis found Sir Charles’ head but somehow his header just crept by
the far post.
Very disappointing result given that we could
have snatched a draw if we hadn’t been so generous in the first half with their
goals.
Todays
Man of the Match was awarded to Mo Bouaziz for his
Midfield effort and scoring and setting up both goals.
