The first of 2 local
Just like the away fixture, we gave ourselves the
perfect start to the game. Our first corner of the match was taken by Mo Bouaziz and his cross found Oli Randalls head which beat the keeper and defender on the
line for a 1-0 lead after just 3 mins. Chances
continued to be made as we went on to completely dominate the first half. Mo
had a volley which cleared the crossbar, likewise Brad Monelle's
freekick. Good running by
Brad Monelle forced a pass to Charlie Frampton wide
left. He cut in and put a cross shot across the box which just eluded Jordan
Knight at the far post. Both Oli Randall and Mo Bouaziz were playing very well in the centre of Midfield
and with Danny McCarthy providing support and cover it allowed both players to
push forward in support of Brad and Charlie. Scott Gregory floated a free kick
from the halfway line into the box which drew a trip on Kyle Curtis just on the
edge of the box. Brad Monelle’s precise far post
drive flew low and hard past the keeper to put us 2-0 up. Despite good ball retention this was how the
half ended, with Longwell Green not troubling Craig
Francis at all in the first half.
The second half continued much in the same way. Our
ability to keep the ball was proving very frustrating for L Green as further
chances were created. Charlie Frampton was holding the ball very well and from
a good cross into the box, Mo’s side volley flew over
the bar. Another good passage of passing from Charlie to Danny McCarthy, inside
to Mo and back out to Kyle Curtis gave Kyle a chance to shoot but his shot just
went wide and into the side netting. Both Kyle and Brad Monelle
were linking up well down the left side and Charlie Frampton continued his dominance
up front with some very good ball control and passing. A moments
lapse of concentration allowed L Green to get a goal back. Scott Gregory won
the first header only to see the ball go backwards to towards Craig Francis. He
made a great save from the resulting shot but could do nothing with the rebound
which was bundled over the line. However, there was to be no repeat
of last weeks result as we stood firm to win very comfortably, even
though the score line does not reflect that.
A great win which was matched by a great team
performance. Oli Randall had an outstanding game
today but todays Man of the Match was awarded to
Charlie Frampton who played his best game of the season.
