West Brom Trip

Saturday 30th April 2011

On Saturday, 30th April, 14 Players, 9 Parents and 1 Manager traveled to Birmingham to watch the local derby West Brom vs. Aston Villa.  They enjoyed a training session, where for the first time all season, the boys did exactly what they were told. The lovely coach, Kirsty must have had something to do with it!  After a Tour of the stadium, and very interesting training session, we headed over to watch the game.

Many of the boys had never been to a Premiership football match before, so this was a great experience for them, and they really enjoyed it.  We were sat in the front row, and we even got a touch of the match ball as it went out for a throw.  West Brom went 1-0 down 4 minutes in due to a clumsy OG by Meite. We were sat at the West Brom end, so we had a great view of the goal.  It was all Villa in the first half, and things were not looking good for our new team.

In the second half, there were a lot more chances by West Brom, and on the 60th Minute, our new favourite player, Odemwingie was fouled about 40yds out.  A deep free kick to back post gets headed back across the goal, and after another scramble, it’s in. ODEMWINGIE!!!!!!  A huge cheer by the stadium, and all of the boys are on their feet celebrating.  In the 63rd, minute, West Brom’s Scharner took down Petrov of Villa. The Ref, Phil Dowd, could have played advantage, but stopped the game, to give Scharner his second yellow, and he was off.  More Chances by Aston Villa, but Carson made some great saves to deny them.

A few of the Parents, and Tom were very pleased to see the Legend, Robert Pires come on, but couldn’t cheer too loud, as West Brom were our team today. It’s fair to say that he definately made an impact.  A big goal kick from Carson in to Cox, who calmly slid it into the path of Mulumbu, who managed to turn the centre back, and score!!!  An amazing comeback from West Brom, and we saw all three goals at the same end, by West Brom Players.

We headed back to our coach, and on our way home to Frys. The obligatory stop at Mcdonalds was included. A fun day was had by all. We look forward to going back to West Brom next season.
