 Pre match tactics

The game against Yate Rangers was a scrappy affair, blamed mostly on the rugged pitch. We couldn’t maintain any rhythm and our passing was average. It wasn’t exactly surprising when we went behind to a sloppy goal. We did however, get stuck in and were rewarded when a deliciously curled free-kick by Curtis Jack was met by a cracking header from Craig Palmer. From this point we looked like much the stronger team but our chances were squandered and we failed to capitalise.

It is fair to say that they scored shortly after against the run of play, leaving us 2-1 down. The shout from captain Dave Oram was “Come on lads we have to get back at ‘em.” After numerous offsides on our part, the scored remained 2-1 at half time.

In the second half although they never looked like adding a third, we didn’t create enough chances for the amount of possession we had. The outcome was looking gloomy as the game was drawing to a close. At that moment, a direct attack with a perfect through ball to striker Lee Dark led to our second equalizer. The goal was a well taken one although the celebrations were dodgy.

From then on the game was very much even, chances few and far between. Neither team looked like winning and the game finished as a disappointing draw to take us to 7 points.
