Managers v U16's

Saturday May 15th 2010

Experience no match for Youth.

The U16's   The Managers

Expecting a tough encounter Fry Managers & Parents (MP’s) announced a match day squad of 26 to try and counter the youth and fitness of the retiring Under 16's.

As predicted the opening 15 minutes saw the Under 16's pressing for the opening score and just as the MP’s were beginning to make use of their huge experience Tom Paice turned inside the box to finish neatly and put the Under 16's a goal to nil up.
After a series of tactical substitutions the MP’s started to dominate possession and eventually after 35 minutes the ball was worked through for Jack O’Brien to beat the advancing Ben Limmer to level the scores.

More tactical substitutions were made at the interval but it was the Under 16's who started brightest and after a period of sustained pressure Tom Paice once again sprung the off side trap to regain the lead for the under 16's.

Almost immediately the game was thrown into controversy when scenes reminiscent of the 1966 World Cup were replayed when Kevin Hurse (No relation to Sir Geoff) forced the ball onto the Bar and over the line, only this time the goal was disallowed by the non Russian Linesman (Who just happened to be related to the Under 16's Captain), another example of the need for goal line technology at this level of Football.

Fry MP’s struggled to regain their composure and the Under 16's capitalised when Callum Whooley climbed above the defence to send a looping header past the stranded MP’s goalkeeper to make the score 3 -1.

Further tactical substitutions were carried out to no avail, and the Under 16's deservedly retained the club trophy for another year.
