As part of the FA Charter Standard, we as a Club have to attend two Training events each year.  Of course they are usually worthy of attending even if we weren't obligated.  One recent event on Saturday 11th February 2012, was a Goalkeeper Coaching Seminar held at Bucklers Mead in Yeovil to facilitate better goalkeeper coaching, tutored by Brendan Dix & Sion Kitson from the Somerset FA.  Fry Club JFC were there too.

Oufield players in readiness for spills, watched by more than 50 coaches from Somerset Charter Standard Clubs    A large crowd of coaches learn new goalkeeper training drills and techniques

The SFA were particularly pleased with the event, and here is their press release to coincide:

SFA Charter Standard In-Service Event - Record number of coaches attend

Last Saturday 11th February saw Somerset FA run one of its regular CPD workshops for Charter Standard Clubs. This was a special workshop as Somerset FA's very own Brendan Dix ran a Goal Keeping workshop that was attended by more than 50 coaches from across 30 clubs countywide. It was an introduction to goal keeping with Brendan delivering 90 minutes of useful goal keeping drills and small sided games that the coaches could use to deliver to their club goal keepers. Brendan covered warm ups, handling, diving and even game play elements such as shot stopping and communication within the session.

Hosted by Bucklers Mead School Brendan worked with 8 x u12s Goal Keepers that came from clubs who play their football in the very successful Yeovil Mini and u11/u12 League as well as outfield players from local Pen Mill Youth FC during the session. It was a fantastic workshop and so pleasing for the County FA to see so many coaches attend and gain many new ideas to develop the next generation of English goal keepers.
