On Thursday 18th October, Chairman Andy Glover, Secretary Dave Worlock and Webmaster Paul Tompkins went to Huish Park, the home of Yeovil Town, where Andy represented the Club to receive our recent Charter Standard Development Club certificate . We were also surprised to find that we had won the Charter Standard Club 2007 award, which Dave Worlock went forward to collect. More on that can be found here.
In the Workforce section, Paul Tompkins was rewarded for his work on our website (www.fryclubjfc.co.uk) and he too picked up an award.
Paul originally set up a web site in 2002 solely for the then U14's. At that stage he was 'merely' a parent. In 2002-3 Paul became Assistant Manager and the website moved from personal web space on AOL to the present frames based site with its own domain name. In 2003-4 rather than see the U16B Team fold he became the Manager. As a qualified referee he was also reluctantly having to referee many of his own teams games. Team Admin, Training, Match days and the web site kept him fully occupied. At the end of the season his son became an U18 player but rather than let the web site lapse he was invited by the management Committee to manage a Club Wide site. What else was he going to do with all that free time!
Several years, tens of thousands of hits and hundreds of thousands of page loads later the web site has grown into a source of information for both Fry's own teams and others. Articles on Laws Of The Game, GSCE Revision help, Advice on warming up and down and the like, attract visitors from around the world. The Laws of The game article was even 'stolen' by a Referee Association in Australia!
The site is highly ranked in Google searches and this in part reflects the relevant content, regular updates and relating links. Paul fully justified the award and we all hope he will continue to invest the vast amounts of time it requires to maintain the site on behalf of Fry Club Juniors.
