We’re Backing Play Safe

Fry Club JFC is lending its full support to Play Safe – a national FA-led campaign to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding in football.

Play Safe is being run in partnership with the NSPCC and has the full backing of the Premier League, EFL, Barclays FA Women’s Super League and the FA Women’s Championship. It’s also supported and being run across every other level of the game.

The main element of Play Safe is a series of short films which emphasise the importance of clubs such as ours having safeguarding as an everyday reality. The films also explain to parents/carers and children themselves know what to do if they feel unsafe or worried, because nothing matters more than making sure football is safe for everyone, especially children and young people. You can see these films below.

“As a youth team coach, I will be working with my club to ensure we support the Play Safe messaging,” says FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham. “I am also pleased that the campaign has the support of the former footballers with lived experience of abuse in football, who are on our Survivor Support and Safeguarding Advisory Group. The Group has collectively said:

“Learning from the past is crucial, so that we can prevent the horrific experiences that happened to us and so many others in football, from happening again.

“As a group of survivors, we fully support the ethos and important messages that Play Safe conveys – whether to club officials, parents/carers and or vitally, children and young people themselves. Equally important is that Play Safe is not a one-off campaign – it will be used at key points in the football calendar to remind everyone in football, that children’s welfare and keeping them safe, should be at the heart of all that we do.”

As the Survivor Group points out, you’ll see Play Safe appearing at various points throughout the season to keep safeguarding front of mind in football. Together, we want to do everything we can so everyone – particularly children and young people – has a consistently positive experience of our great game.

New Heading Guidance!

English football will introduce heading guidance across every level of the professional and amateur game from the start of the 2021-22 season. The new guidance, which is specifically focused on training sessions where the majority of heading occurs, has been designed to meet the requirements of each level of English football. The guidance will be applicable to clubs in the Premier League, EFL, Barclays Women’s Super League, FA Women’s Championship, the National League System, the Women’s Football Pyramid Tiers 3 and below, all grassroots football, and across the England national teams. The youth headlines are:

No heading in training in the foundation phase.

Graduated approach to heading for children in the development phase U12-U16.

Frys Made It To The Euro Finals!

Fry Club JFC made it to the Euro 2021 Final... kind of!  Two players, one from our U14's and the other from our U16's as well as their dad who helps coach both of those Teams were luck enough to be able to get tickets to go and watch, and whilst England were not fortunate enough to bring home the ultimate prize, we like to think that Fry Club JFC made it to the Final as well!  To see more photos from inside of the ground and the match. please click the Euro Final link. U8 & U9 Wildcats Fundraise For Charity!

Fry Club JFC U8 and U9 Girls Teams have had a magnificent attempt at fundraising as they look to raise £1,000.00, with half of the money donated to the Children's Hospice South West and the other half going towards the purchase of kit and tracksuits for the girls to play in.  To do so, the girls dribbled around the perimeter of the Somerdale fields, a distance of 2.5 kilometres, and if you would like to donate to these great causes then please log on to their Just Giving Crowdfunding page. If you are interested in girl's football then please get in touch and for more on the Wildcats, please click the link.

Wildcats Are Always Welcome!

Fry Club JFC are always looking to welcome more girls to our Wildcats section.  We have a strong and thriving section who train on a Saturday morning, however we are always open to more girls who would like to see what football is all about.  We currently have Girls teams at U12 Girls and U10 Girls as well as next season's new Teams which is looking like both U8's and U9's. Say No To Racism Social Media Blackout

Fry Club JFC have joined with English Football's social media boycott across its websites, Twitter and Facebook pages in an attempt to highlight the scourge of online racism and abuse which social media companies appear to not do enough about. Broadcasters such as Sky Sports have joined as well as UEFA in a blackout which will run from Friday, April 30 at 15.00 GMT and will end at 23.59 GMT on Monday, May 3 in an attempt to combat the ongoing discrimination that many players suffer daily.

Six Months Later... We're Back!

After the various Covid restrictions of the 2nd National Lockdown finally began to lift all of the girls and boys of Fry Club JFC were able to get back to doing what they love; playing football. Due to the various local restrictions that had preceded Lockdown 2, and cancellations due to teams missing players through infection, what that meant in real terms was for a Team such as our U13's, their last match was October 18 2020 and the return was April 11 2021, a gap 25 weeks, just shy of half a year, and they were keen to get back as the Photos show. For more on the U13's, visit their Team Page.

Frys Observe A Minute's Silence

As a mark of respect, a minute’s silence was observed of in memory of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh before all matches which were played this weekend. Here, our U13's are impeccable with their minute before their match against Stoke Lane Lions.

An Impeccable Minute's Silence

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Fry Club JFC sends our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen on the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. As a mark of respect, a minute’s silence will be observed before all matches which are played this weekend.

It's A Good Friday To Be Training!

Fry Club JFC U13's took full advantage of the lifting of restrictions, by getting down to Somerdale on Good Friday for a double session of training.  It's been a difficult winter with no social contact, but hopefully there is now clear light at the end of the tunnel, and for the U13's, it was great to see them giggling and enjoying their football. They have a match scheduled for next Sunday which would represent a gap of sixth months between playing games! For more on the U13's, click on their Team Page.

Making Football Safer For Our Children!

Following on from Clive Sheldon QC's long-awaited Report into non-recent child sexual abuse in football, Fry Club JFC wanted to assure everyone involved in football that so much has changed to ensure these scenarios never arise again. There are many resources available to those involved such as the FA online Safeguarding For All training for volunteers and helpers or the new Safeguarding Children e-learning course available in April 2021 for coaches/managers. All volunteers go through a Criminal Record Check (CRC) conducted by the Club Welfare Officer (CWO - currently Andy Glover, photo to the right).  We also have a series of Club Policies designed to keep our Children safe and there is an online film available called ‘Let’s talk about keeping children safe in football’. For more information, please speak to your Team Manager or contact the CWO. If you wish to report a child abuse concern, please contact:

Report Into Non-Recent Child Sexual Abuse In Football

On Wednesday 17 March, Clive Sheldon QC released his long-awaited Report into non-recent child sexual abuse in football.  The review was commissioned by The FA in December 2016, following the disclosures of abuse in the media by former footballers. Following the disclosures, a significant number of criminal processes have taken place, several leading to criminal convictions and some to lengthy custodial sentences for individual perpetrators. The FA have released a statement in response which contains the full Report for download. If you wish to report a child abuse concern, please contact:

Grassroots Football Set To Return (Again)!

Following the latest Government Announcement on Monday 22nd February 2021 with regards to the roadmap out of the third National Lockdown, The FA issued their own update in which we can look forward to the safe return of grassroots football from 29 March for children. The 2020-21 grassroots season has been extended until the end of June in order to provide additional flexibility and time for leagues to complete their fixtures this season if they wish to do so.  The different leagues will update teams as to how they intend to see out the season (if they indeed intend to) in due course. Until then, please everyone continue to stay safe and well.  Everyone start their warm-ups and stretches...

Frys Purchase Portable Floodlights!

Fry Club JFC have just received six portable floodlights which we purchased before Christmas. These lights are the first step towards ensuring that in the future we can train on grass  all year round should we choose to do so.  Each one takes a minute or two to erect and offers two hours worth of light, and it is the Club's intention to purchase more so that we can offer the widest possible utility. To view a few more photos, please click Floodlights.

Healthy New Year From Fry Club JFC!

We at Fry Club JFC would like to wish everyone a very healthy, safe and happy New Year.  After the sadness and disruption of last year, we hope that the Country can pull together, and that the wonders of modern medicines and science with the new vaccines can herald relief for our wonderful NHS and bring  the end to this pandemic, and the return to normal life, and with it grassroots football for all of the girls and boys who love the beautiful game.
